Dear Friends

As we celebrate Nelson Mandela Day today 18 July, I can not help thinking of HIS Legacy. A man of stature and principle, the true father of the South African nation. Google: ‘Legacy is about life and living. It’s about learning from the past, living in the present, and building for the future. Research shows that without a sense of working to create a legacy, adults lose meaning in their life’. The question is: what is and what will your Legacy be? You are building your Legacy every day !

‘As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. Nelson Mandela ‘

I have been a retailer for over 30 years, worked in more than 100 cities across different brands and more than 1000 stores. The thing with legacy is as google said, its about life and living. True legacy is built over many years, true legacy is how you conduct yourself, how you speak to others, your fairness and consistency. At the end of your career no matter what industry, sport or social you will reflect back. Your peers, collogues and subordinates with remember you with fondness or not 😉 This is actually your legacy. Legacy = Who you are and how you will be remembered for today and in years to come.

Many of you reading this blog know me, I was very blessed to attend Value Based Leadership training at 2 different companies in my career. Yes the training where you are told what your dominant colour is, Blue, Red, Yellow or Green. These are all associated with your personality and your behaviors. I have shared this and discussed this before, but I have to share it again. I am Blue/Red, this is good for retail but truth be told you have to balance the colours. I had to dial up my yellow and green. Intentionally or unintentionally doing this makes you a better person, more balanced and more approachable.

This is blog number 21 for me, thank for the 102 comments I received this week on current and previous blogs. The comments are from across the world making me smile as I  read them. As Mandela said: ‘As we let our own light shine, we   unconsciously give other people permission to do the same ‘, your comments are inspiring me to write more blogs and hopefully I am inspiring you to do the same. We all have a story to share, thanks for letting me share mine. Let me inspire you to share yours. Happy Blogging and good luck building your Legacy.

‘I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. One of the most difficult things is not to change society — but to change yourself. Nelson Mandela ‘ https://motivationgrid.com/top-30-nelson-mandela-quotes/
